Make a label for each line item in a Shopify order

Understanding Shopify Order Line Items

Line items represent the individual contents of an order—essentially, the products a merchant has agreed to transfer to a customer. In Shopify, a line item contains essential information such as the item name, SKU, quantity, price, applicable discounts, and more.

Axios Order Printer, a versatile document generator for Shopify orders, goes beyond creating documents for entire orders. It enables the creation of specific documents or labels for each line item within an order.

But how can you achieve this? Let’s dive into the process.

An Example in Action

Consider an order with three items:

ItemQuantityPrice
Rake118.50
Shovel221
Hose113.70

With Axios Order Printer, a few clicks transform this order into three distinct documents, each focusing on a specific line item.

Crafting a Template

To harness this functionality, follow these steps:

  1. Open Axios Order Printer.
  2. Navigate to the left-hand menu and select “Templates.”
  3. Click “New template” and configure the setup options:
    • Choose a starter template: Select “Start from scratch.”
    • Will you use this template with orders, fulfillments, or line items? Opt for either “Order line items” or “Fulfillment line items.”
    • Do you want the template to be paginated? Choose “No” (or “Yes” if required).
    • What’s the size of your page? Stick to the defaults for this example.

Now, you’re in the template editor—initially blank, awaiting your content.

Incorporating a Liquid Template Element

The simplest way to showcase line item information is through a Liquid template. Here’s how:

  1. Find the available elements in the toolbar on the left of the template preview.
  2. Drag the “Liquid template” element and drop it onto a blank area of the template preview.

Configuring the Liquid Template Element

Liquid templates offer flexibility in displaying various text. For this example, let’s focus on showing the item name and quantity:

  1. Click “Settings” on the Liquid template element.
  2. Input the following in the template text box:
Name: {{ line_item.name }}
Quantity: {{ line_item.quantity}}

Assign a name to the template and click “Save.”

Document Generation

To bring your template to life:

  1. Return to the dashboard and click “New document.”
  2. Select one or more orders or fulfillments.
  3. Locate the Template option above the “Create documents” button.
  4. Choose the template created in the previous steps.
  5. Click “Create documents.”

Exploring Further Possibilities

Extend the capabilities of your template by adding more elements. Consider incorporating additional order information, such as order numbers or customer names. Axios Order Printer provides a robust platform to tailor documents precisely to your needs.
